Pathology Collection Guide
When collecting your sample at the collection centre here’s what you can expect to be collected according to your request form:

Please ensure the details on your request form match your medicare card
Bloods
HIV, HepABC, Syphilis | Fertility, Pregnancy Planning, PCOS tests
-
These test require blood to be drawn, normally from a vein in your arm
-
These are non-fasting and can be collected any time of the day.

First Pass Urine
Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Trichomonas, Mycoplasma Genitalium
-
First pass urine is not the first urine of the day. You can collect this sample at any time in the day.
-
Do not pass urine for at least 1 hour before collection
-
If you are female and have your period, a tampon should be inserted prior to urine collection
-
Collect the first 20-30ml of your urine stream

PCR - Vaginal / Anorectal Swabs
Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Trichomonas, Mycoplasma Genitalium
-
Depending on the lab you attend, a vaginal and anorectal swab can be self-collected. A self-collected vaginal or anorectal swab is as accurate as a doctor collected sample
-
The collector should give you a swab and further instructions on how to self-collect your sample.
-
NOTE: If a collector says your doctor should give you a swab as they don’t have any swabs, please take your request form to another collection centre as SISTR is a telehealth service and we don’t offer any in person consults.
